The German Shepherd first became popular during World War 1 and 2 When the Germans used them for search and rescue and other reasons.  Since then it has become the third most popular breed in the world.  The German Shepherd has been used in many movies, such as the famous Rin-Tin-Tin.  The German Shepherd has many uses.  Like police dogs, security dogs, herding dogs or just plain house pets.

    The German Shepherd has many different coats. (A white haired coat, a long haired coat and a solid black coat.)  The long haired coat is the most often seen coat.  You can find a German Shepherd at your local breeder.
