A Chinchilla was an endangered species and are not pets.The reason they are endangered is because they have the softest fur in the world and because they have soft fur they were being hunted and used for fur coats.    They are in the rodent family and they live in the mountains in the west. Chinchillas have big ears. Some People think that Chinchillas are pets but they are not at all pets. They are to endangered to be pets.

    There are only about 100 left in existance! It is all because of the hunting season that was ban in 1918. Because of the hunters not many zoos have them either.

    Chinchillas are fun but be careful because they don't like unexpected guests. They live in Africa and South America.

I have two pet chinchillas and it was not illegal, actually Pet Supplies Plus will sometimes have chinchillas for sale. Chinchillas are just expesive.
