Basketball

James Naismith, a Canadian created basketball in 1891.  They played with peach baskets with a bottom for baskets and a soccer ball for the ball.  Basketball became an Olympic sport in 1936 at the Berlin Games. The NBA was originally the NBL (National Basketball League) Then the BAA (Basketball Association of America) Then finally the NBA (National Basketball Association).  The first official game was played at the Springfield, Massachusets YMCA training school and the final score was 1-0 with a shot scored from present day 3 point territory. The most points scored by any one person scored in a single game was 100 points by Wilt Chamberlain in the 1961-1962 season while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Kareen Abdul-Jabber in his 20 seasons scored a record 38,387 points! Michael Jordon (by some considered the best basketball play of all time) scored a record 5987 points in all the playoffs he went to.  The Boston Celtics have won 16 NBA franchise championships, more than any other team in the NBA.  The Pistons played in both the highest scoring game and the lowest. The original basketball hoop was on a mezzanine balcony but they had to change it because fans interfered with shots.
