There are 5 American Girl stores. You can buy clothes, dolls,books and accesories online, through their cataloges, or at the stores.  There are history girls that you can buy at the stores, and with each doll you buy they would like you to buy one of the stories that go with that doll. Each year they come out with a new doll for that year. 2008 was Mia.

 Some of the other dolls are Kaya, Kirstin,Kit,  Samantha, Josifania, Julie, Elizabeth and Addy. Each one of the history dolls has a purpose of why they were made. Take Addy for instance, her stories are about they underground railroad and how the life of being a slave is. And all of the other dolls has a story of their own like Addy.

    Some of the dolls have best friends in the book. Take Samantha for instience, her best friend is Nellie O'Mallay. Nellie is an orphan with her two other sisters.

In 1986 Pleasant Rowland began to sell American Girls by mail order.  Pleasant Company became a subsidiary of Mattel. inc. in 1998.

Since 1986 fourteen million have been sold and one 123 books have also been sold.
