Alexander Ovechkin
| In January 2008, Alexander Ovechkin signed a thirteen year contract worth 124 million with the capitals. He is the only player to win all four awards since the Rocket Richard trophy's inception in 1999. the first sign of Ovechkin's future came when he was two years old -while in soviet toy store he picked up a toy stick and helmet and refused to give them up. At the age of 16, Ovechkin helped lead the junior national team to the gold medal with two hat tricks ,one against Switzerland and one against USA. At age of 19, Alexander Ovechkin was named to the Russian national team for the 2004 world cup of hockey. He was the youngest player in the tournament.Ovechkin was the first overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry draft. In the 2007-2008 season he led the NHL with 65 goals and 112 points to capture the Rocket Richard and Art Ross Trophies. Alexander Ovechkin is the son of Michail Ovechkin, a former Professional football (soccer) player. |
